Inclusive Market Development in Food Trade Project

Description

The project was developed to provide a market approach to structured trade of staple crops in East Africa. The project aims to catalyse and sustain an inclusive agricultural transformation in Tanzania, Kenya and their trade partners to increase incomes and improve food security for 50,000 farmers. It also builds on learning from a 2018 Wellspring project implemented under the previous DFID Food Trade programme.

Wellspring are working with 2 large off-takers in Tanzania and Kenya to analyse and improve the structure of their supply chains with farmers, ensuring that all parties can benefit from increased integration and deeper relationships.

The work involves assessing the impact of the current supply chain, looking for methods to work with farmers in a more integrated manner, and strengthening links to Farmer Organisations for win-win outcomes between farmers and businesses.
